News Brief:  Gay South African Couple Make History with Birth of Triplets

Christo and Theo Menalaou, a South African gay couple, just made medical history after each of their DNA was used to have triplets.  A surrogate mother carried the two eggs, one of which split in two and birthed the third child.

To clarify, the DNA was not combined to form one person.  The twins are born from one father’s sperm and the third child is from the others.  Thus making them, technically, half-siblings.  Despite their doctor recommending that two of the fetuses be terminated early on in the pregnancy, Towleroad reports that the couple elected to proceed with all three.  Although born prematurely, all three are happy and healthy.

Congratulations, Christo and Theo!
