News Brief:  A Bare Bush May Increase Your Risk for STIs

A recent study from Dell Medical School at the University of Texas has found a link between extreme pubic hair grooming and increased rates of sexually transmitted infections.  The results indicate that high-frequency shavers have a quadrupled risk of contracting an STI.

One reason, researchers speculate, might be that infections can spread more easily due to tiny cuts or tears in the skin that occur as a result of grooming.  Another theory is that people who groom more often engage in more sex and are thus already at a higher risk for contracting STIs.

News Brief:  Texas Bill Would Fine Men $100 for Masturbating

A bill introduced in the US state of Texas would fine men $100 for masturbating, unless they do it in an approved medical facility.  Bill 4260, introduced by Representative Jessica Farrar, is in response to debates around women’s reproductive health across the US.

Intended as a satirical attack on male politicians’ dealings in issues concerning women’s bodies, the bill would restrict men in the same way that some seek to restrict women’s access to abortions and contraceptives.

“A lot of people find the bill funny,” Farrar told The Houston Chronicle.  “What’s not funny are the obstacles that Texas women face every day, that were placed there by legislatures making it very difficult for them to access healthcare.”

A landmark court ruling in Italy recognizes a gay couple as the legal parents of their children born to a surrogate.  The Court of Appeals in the city of Trento ruled that both men could be names as fathers to the children.

According to the court judges, parental relationships are not solely defined by a biological link.  “On the contrary, one must consider the importance of parental responsibility, which is manifested in the conscious decision to raise and care for the child,” the panel wrote.

The details of the ruling were published on the Article 29 website, which links it to an article to do with family in the country’s constitution.
